2019 NICE

Our 2019 Theme was Folklore and Fairy Tales ~ Beyond the Fairy Dust

In 2019, our passages came from four folklore and fairy tales: The Story of Hunahpú and Xbalanqué (in Popul Vuh, trans. Ximénez, c. 1700), The Little Mermaid (Hans Christian Anderson, 1836), The Ballad of Tam Lin (Celtic, c. 1549 in The Complaynt of Scotland; our NICE passage is Child Ballad 39A from The English and Scottish Popular Ballads, 1882-1898 by Francis James Child), and Hansel and Gretel (The Brothers Grimm, collected and recorded 1812). Our workshops participants looked at the original stories through a modern lens, to relate them to today’s world and our own experiences with fresh insights.
